Finally - a site for Canadian Recruiters

Congratulations, Richard and the group at Caro for starting a Canadian-only website for Corporate Recruiters! It's time that a separate and distinct site was developed for Canadian recruiters. The "other" site that I'm sure many of us have relied on in the past was just too "American". Even though I still feel that the "other site" is relevant (we all need to keep ourselves up to date on North American and Global issues) it's refreshing to see that we can now write content about Canadian-centric recruiting experiences, practices and issues.

I remember how irked I was when an American recruiter made a flippant remark that "Recruiting is no different in Canada"...well we there are differences - different laws, different exchange rates, different culture. And although recruiting is a prevalent HR function globally, Canadian recruiting has its own unique challenges and ideosyncracies.

To begin this blog, I'm hoping that others can contribute how unique recruiting in Canada is. I'm sure several of my Canadian Recruiting colleagues who have recruited in the US can contribute.

Glad there is a new site for Canadians

This is wonderful news. This way we access international perspective/suggestions. I look forward to reading the blogs and material that comes from this:)

I am Canadian....

Agreed. There are distinct differences that make recruiting unique in Canada -- not to mention the differences we have within our own borders. Many of us can relate to the recruiting differences between Montreal and Toronto....or Toronto and B.C. There are so many reasons why this networking group will make a difference to Canadian recruiting as we know it.

Everything from privacy legislation to diversity recruitment to applicant vs. candidate captures why Canada is unique in its own right. Having lived in the U.S for 2 years, I remember explaining the difference btwn EEOC and EE to my recruiters that were trying to recruit expats from diverse member groups.

Even the functionality of your ATS was driven by the unique differences that needed to be captured by country. Yes, we live in a global economy and yes we still need to understand the world around us, but I am Canadian and love the fact that we have our own networking site!
