5 Tips for Building and Managing Positive Candidate Relationships

By:  Paul Dodd, Co-Founder of Head2Head

CRM. Customer Relationship Management. Unless your organization has been living under a rock for the past few years, this has probably been one of your core mandates: We must do a better job of developing long-term relationships with our customers!

But these days, the acronym has taken on a whole new meaning: Candidate Relationship Management.

The bottom line is, don’t sit back.

The bottom line is, don’t let a bad economy stand in your way. Let it drive you to be more passionate about your search. Have the best resume you can, apply for as many jobs as you feel qualified for, be as positive and flexible as possible and don’t lose hope. Remember, there are many roads that you can take to achieve your goal and there is no wrong direction to begin. Things will turn around and when they do you want to be on the top of the list and on top of your game.

CRM: Tip #6

Paul,

Well written article. I hope you don't mind me adding to your list ;-)

#6. Treat Every Candidate Like a Customer
It's easy during the recruiting process to forget that many of the candidates you deal with on a day to day basis may also be either a customer or a potential customer, whether you sell cars, phones, insurance policies or banking services. The way you treat each and every candidate WILL have an impact on your brand.

Some companies go so far as to acknowledge rejected candidates by providing a coupon for a product or service (50% off your next movie rental at Blockbuster, or a free medium coffee at Tim Horton's, etc - just examples). Add a timeframe (within the next 7 days) and understand coupon redemption statistics (avg of less than 10% are ever redeemed) - and this becomes a "feel good" way of treating your candidates as customers/potential customers.
