Volume hiring with Workapolis and Monster job boards

Hi all,

Wondering for those of you that do a fair number of high volume recruiting, what types of arrangements do you have with Workapolis and Monster?

We are finding that since Workapolis dropped the unlimited posting package, there are challenges (and huge cost implications) with the number of allowed postings. We are consistently at the limit of our postings and are trying to find a better way of doing things.

Have you had cost challenges using Workapolis/Monster with high volume postings?

Internally, do you place any types of restrictions on what types of postings can be posted on Workapolis/Monster?

Your thoughts and comments are much appreciated!

Skipping the Job Board Posting

Hey there,

I hear your pain....

There is a site out there called www.eluta.ca . It offers FREE postings that directly links to your career site. Like the job boards it searches agregated postings from all registered companies but uses sophisticated search technologies to get your postings noticed through searches on the main engines like google, yahoo, etc.

One of the cool things is that your posting won't get lost in the sea of agency postings. Eluta only allows for corporate postings and NO Agencies.

Eluta is a very innovative concept and was founded by Kim Peters, Workopolis's first president. Their revenue model is created thorugh eluta working with employers on branding campaigns and online advertising on the site.

ROI
By only buying the search capabability from the major boards, registering with Eluta for posting profile in combination with other innovative marketing techniques such as facebook, linkedin etc. you will probably see an increase in traffic to your career site postings and hopefully a better return on investment.

We are having the same problem too...

We are having the same problem as well. I met with our Account Manager from Workopolis recently to discuss our pricing package for next year - it is not within our budget. Frankly, our success rate through web/internet posting is low. We have used the Workopolis resume mining option, however, I find the tool not as user friendly as Monster's. We are considering a marketing campaign to "get our name out there" which targets a specific demographic/industry group. Hopefully that will increase our company exposure to passive job seekers.

Critical to post?!?!

Slightly off topic... This doesn't help the broader topic initially brought up, but I was thinking of something based on Steve's comments. Whether we face a shortage of postings, or not, perhaps we should all be thinking about what drives the criticality of a posting. Perhaps not everything lends itself well to a Workopolis or a Monster posting. Maybe a Craigslist would be better if it is an IT related posting. Perhaps a marketing manager should just be posted directly to Marketing Magazine, etc.

I guess there's two ways to push change through to the Workopolis' and Monsters. One, as discussed, might be to create a lobby of clients to partner with them - and the other, a more silent way, is to be more targetted with your ads and not blast everything out to the major job boards - besides, if you are more strategic with your sourcing, you might yield better candidates anyways.

Anyone up for starting up and marketing an Employers Consortium Job Board? :)

Is it a monopoly out there?

Hi folks,
The problem with the likes of Workopolis is that there is little competition. Monster.ca is competing and offers more flexibility with their price points, but...what else really competes?

The only way around this is to create more competition and demand for other posting services. I've seen the pricing go up significantly and consistently over the past 5 years - but the industry is not crying foul over it (or at least, doing it quietly).

Other new entrants in the Canadian space isn't making much of an impact -- eg. Careerbuilder...

Interesting you should mentio

Interesting you should mention, we have the same challenges here at GE. Have had to review on weekly basis which positions are more critical to post than others. As a result we are relying more on the resume mining options to source candidates but this is limiting our complete source of candidates. Wonder if it might be worth banding together to discuss the concerns with Workopolis and see what they can do to meet our needs. Are others having this challenge?
