What's the trend for 2010 and beyond?
I was reading an article the other day that started by saying ,… “A surprisingly big increase in the number of self-employed workers in Canada last month has provided a sign that the deepest recession in decades could be approaching bottom, although observers say it's too soon to say the labour market recovery is at hand.” http://bit.ly/13QChP
I don’t think that the article reveals the “whole truth” and may just a shot of unreal optimism to keeps spirits high. Not that I don't appreciate the intent,.. but not at the expense of reality.
What is happening is an increase in “consultants” entering the workspace due to lay-off’s, job scarcity and truly a desire to do something “they want to do”.
Which poses new questions,…
- is the trend of a “contingent” workforce is going to carry into the economic recovery and shape the landscape for the way business is going to be done?
- Are organizations going to want to be in a position where they want to mitigate risk and hire “project” people vs. Full time employees?
- Are employees going to want more from life then work and start doing what they want to do rather then what they are being told to do?
I wonder,……
